Jean-Luc Picard to come back to save us from ourselves in late 2019
Assuring us all that our stern but loving Space Daddy will soon be back to “make it so”…much better than it’s been since he left our TV screens and theaters, lo these many years ago, CBS chief creative officer David Nevins has revealed that the new Jean-Luc Picard-centric Star Trek series will arrive in late 2019. Per The Wrap, Nevins told reporters today that Star Trek: Discovery will be back as expected at the start of the year, while “Picard will start at the end of the year.”
It’s not clear if Nevins was also giving away the name of the new series, which will star Patrick Stewart in the role he embodied for nearly a decade on Star Trek: The Next Generation, the tea-chugging, British-accented Frenchman who always knew when to talk, when to charge phasers, and when a good “Shut up, Wesley!” was certainly in order.
Stewart announced the new show—which is one of several new Star Trek projects in production right now, including the animated comedy series Lower Decks and Discovery spin-off shorts Short Treks—earlier this year. The Picard series will air, like the other Trek projects, including Discovery, on CBS All Access.
