Jeff Goldblum reads Independence Day For Kids

This week, Jeff Goldblum stopped by the Mashable offices to talk about his new movie, Independence Day: Resurgence, the sequel to 1996’s Independence Day. As it has been 20 years since the first film’s release, it is definitely time for a recap for those who saw the film too young—or not at all, because they weren’t born yet—to remember every single slimy detail.

The story of Independence Day is not the light fare of children’s books of old; it starts right away with a UFO quietly traveling through space to destroy all of humankind. There needs to be a little bit more than a lullaby tune tinkling away in the background to distract from the inherent horror of that idea, but still, Jeff presses on with his tale of mayhem, science, and—oh yeah!—great friendship.

The ending to Independence Day, which is slightly convoluted if you happen to be a kid, is dealt with deftly, and without the omission of one of the film’s most iconic scenes: characters Steven Hiller (Will Smith) and David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) sharing a cigar before (fingers crossed) saving the world.

The entire video can be found here and with a special appearance from one of the newest stars in the Independence Day galaxy, Jessie Usher.
