Jeffrey Dean Morgan joins the cast of Extant
Freed from Magic City, Jeffrey Dean Morgan will join season two of Extant as JD Richter, a cop from the future who meets his match in Halle Berry’s Molly Woods. Deadline describes Morgan’s character as “roguish womanizer” and “a freewheeling, hard-drinking and fearless, bordering on reckless mercenary.” (So perhaps Morgan can just completely reprise Watchmen’s Comedian, and do all this in a domino mask.) In other casting news, Goran Visnjic, Camryn Manheim, Grace Gummer, and Pierce Gagnon are all returning, while Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O’Neill are not.
Season one of the CBS sci-fi drama dealt with the aftermath of Woods’ impregnation by an alien while in space (despite Regulation 47-B of the Astronaut’s Handbook, Second Edition, which explicitly forbids coitus with any extraterrestrial species). Season two will see Molly Woods searching for her alien son, who’s become a threat to humanity. This probably has something to do with his alien DNA, though it’s also possible he’s just turned 16 and acquired a Class C Learner’s Permit (the point when every child becomes a threat to humanity).
