Jeffrey Dean Morgan to try to fill Archie Panjabi’s boots on The Good Wife

No real-life investigators seem able to solve the mystery of why Archie Panjabi and Julianna Margulies were unable to film in the same room together, but The Good Wife has gained a new investigator for its next season. Following Kalinda’s departure, Alicia Florrick will hire Alex, an even-tempered hourly investigator to be played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Morgan joins Margulies, Christine Baranski, Matt Czuchry, Alan Cumming, and Zach Grenier as a series regular. Matthew Goode has stepped down after just a year of being a regular, so if you were still naively holding out for a Finn/Alicia romance, it’s time to move on—for good.

“We’ve loved and admired Jeffrey Dean Morgan for years, and we were thrilled to hear that Julianna did too, so it was a no-brainer to ask him to join our troupe,” said The Good Wife creators/executive producers Robert and Michelle King.

Will he look as good in a leather jacket as Kalinda does? Doubtful. However, hopefully the love and admiration the Kings referenced means Margulies and Morgan will be able to make direct eye contact with one another.

The Good Wife returns to CBS on October 4.
