Jennifer Aniston crashes The Gong Show
Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Monday, August 14. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
The Gong Show (ABC, 10:01 p.m.): This particular game show revival is still in renewal limbo, but while Will Arnett and not-Mike Meyers wait on a pickup, they’ll play host to guest host Jennifer Aniston, who will crash the talent show to judge the acts for herself. Aniston’s not much one for guest appearances, but that might be because she’s developing a morning show comedy with Reese Witherspoon. But before she heads to the talk show couch, the Friends alum will be joined on the judging panel by Arnett and Jack Black. Presumably, this episode will be titled “The One Where Rachel Judges A Talent Contest.”
Regular coverage
Preacher (AMC, 9 p.m.)
Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later (Netflix)
Wild card
Hell Or High Water (Showtime, 8:18 p.m.): This is more of a sure thing than a wild card, having placed fifth on our list of best films of 2016. David Mackenzie helms this neo-Western, which sees Chris Pine and Ben Foster play bankrobbing brothers blazing a trail across Texas. Jeff Bridges and Gil Birmingham are the two Texas Rangers in hot pursuit. As film editor A.A. Dowd writes, “the thrill of High Of High Water is in its skillful, offbeat execution,” so why not settle for a first or repeat viewing?
