Not a whole lot actually happens in the teaser trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s Mother! that Paramount uploaded onto YouTube yesterday, but anyone who’s seen Repulsion can tell you that there’s plenty of horror to be gleaned from a woman trapped in an empty house. And besides, the horror here is all in the audio, which teases sinister double dealings when uninvited guests show up at Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem’s door. A few quick flashes of violent imagery, a Psycho-esque string crescendo, what sounds like knife blades being scraped together, and…well, we’ll have to wait until the full trailer is released next week for the rest.
Mother! co-stars Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Domhnall Gleeson and hits theaters on September 15.
