There is never, ever any slowing down for Jennifer Lopez. NBC just renewed Shades Of Blue, and she continues to executive produce Freeform’s The Fosters. She also has a Las Vegas residency and occasionally links up with Lin-Manuel Miranda to collaborate on a last-minute new single. She’s unstoppable. She’s everywhere at once. She’s also definitely not your mama, but she will play a MILF in a movie about MILFs. Here’s a theory: J.Lo has clones, and the evidence was right in front of our faces when the “Get Right” music video dropped.
Now, in the wake of American Idol’s conclusion, she’s heading back to the wild world of reality television with a new dance competition series, because apparently we don’t have enough of those already. NBC is doubling down on J.Lo and has ordered a 10-episode first season of World Of Dance, which Lopez will executive produce in all of her ample free time. The show was created in partnership with World Of Dance, a California-based global media company and dance brand. The stakes of World Of Dance are huge: The winner of the competition will receive $1 million. Solo dancers, duos, and crews will all dance for their lives (okay, dance for the cash money). The contestants can dance in any style: hip-hop, tap, jazz, ballet, break dance, ballroom, stomp, modern, clogging, anything!
Casting for World Of Dance is now open, so if you’ve got million-dollar moves, now’s your chance. Potential contestants can audition in the juniors category (solo or groups of up to 20 dancers, ages 8-16), upper category (solo or groups of up to four dancers, ages 17 and up), or team category (for groups of 5-20 performers, all 17 and older). World Of Dance uses a point system developed by World Of Dance the brand. Points are awarded based on routine, execution, presentation, and crowd appeal. Eventually, it will all get narrowed down to three dancers or groups who will compete for that $1 million prize, and the competition will be judged by a panel of experts that has not been announced yet. It’s also unclear if Lopez will have any presence in front of the camera on World Of Dance. Does she even have the time? Will she send in one of her clones? Shouldn’t she be working on a new album? Or another thriller? She did have the time in her schedule to appear in a promo clip for the show…
“This will be a fierce talent-heavy dance competition that embraces the raw emotion and excitement that dance represents,” Lopez said in a statement. “I am excited to work with World of Dance, an organization that has had an immeasurable impact on the dance community, to give all dancers an enormous platform where their dreams can be realized.” More importantly, it’ll give one lucky dancer (or group) $1 million, which is quite a bit more than the $250,000 prize So You Think You Can Dance winners are usually awarded. World Of Dance has J.Lo money.
