Jeremy Renner and Hannibal Buress to play Tag with Ed Helms
According to Variety, Jeremy Renner and Hannibal Buress are in talks to join Ed Helms in what sounds like a pretty intense game of Tag—or at least a movie about an intense game of Tag. The film is called Tag, naturally, and it’s based on a true story from the Wall Street Journal about a group of old friends that have been taking part in an extreme version of the game since they were kids. We don’t have any details about the characters Renner and Buress will be playing, but they will be participants in this ridiculous game of Tag. Also, we don’t know what will make this game of Tag so ridiculous other than its longevity, but we imagine the movie will have a handful of scenes where one character barges into an important business meeting and slaps another player in the face before running off and yelling “you’re it.”
Variety suggests that this is a “change of pace” for Renner, but as a guy who almost always plays the member of an action movie ensemble who isn’t the leader or the funny one but still does cool stuff and cracks jokes, it seems like a pretty good fit. He doesn’t have to carry all of Tag’s humor, and he still gets to leap through the air and slap his friends while they’re in the middle of important business meetings.
