Jerry Lewis denied the chance to host one last Labor Day Telethon

Only a week after Jerry Lewis paused briefly from his evisceration of all show business and the troubling condition of the human soul to deflect questions about his annual Labor Day telethon, the Muscular Dystrophy Association says he has been “released” from his position as national chairman, and he will not appear on this year’s broadcast. Previously it was rumored that this year would see Lewis’ final hosting gig and a possible passing of the torch, but that no longer appears to be the case—though neither the MDA nor Lewis has yet said why Lewis won’t be allowed to perform his swan song.
