Jerry Seinfeld, Mark Hamill, and Joel McHale request permission to board the Satellite Of Love
Back when Mystery Science Theater 3000 originally ran on Comedy Central in the early ’90s, the closest thing the low-budget show ever got to a celebrity cameo was Mike Nelson’s Morrissey impersonation. But now that Joel Hodgson is leading a campaign to reboot MST3K with Felicia Day as the daughter of Dr. Forrester and Patton Oswalt as TV’s Son Of TV’s Frank, plenty of famous geeks are clamoring to provide cameo appearances on the show, wherever it may air.
According to the Kickstarter page, Jerry Seinfeld, Mark Hamill, and Joel McHale are among those geeks, and have confirmed that they want to get movie sign as soon as Hodgson’s new ’Bots are up and running. We here at The A.V. Club just wanted to pitch the episodes we’d like to see these three on:
Jerry Seinfeld is a clueless maître’d at a Chinese restaurant…IN SPACE! Seinfeld keeps new host Jonah Ray and the ’Bots waiting for dinner while the Mads queue up Ed Wood’s Plan 9 From Outer Space.
Joel McHale, Tom Servo, and Crow can maybe make snarky comments about reality show cli…never mind. That’s already been done. Okay, since Dan Harmon’s on board too, how about they do a meta episode? McHale, Ray, and the ’Bots can provide amusing commentary while watching the RiffTrax gang riffing on Mystery Science Theatre 3000: The Movie. It can all take place in a study hall, and perhaps both camps can learn a lesson about friendship in the end.
As for Mark Hamill? Two words: Corvette Summer.
You’re welcome, Joel.
