Jessica Biel will play Vera Miles in Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho

In keeping with the dictum that every film must have a competing replica, else the wolves will smell the unmistakable bacon scent of originality and devour us, the next year will see the release of two movies about Alfred Hitchcock making movies. The first, The Girl, takes place behind the scenes of The Birds, and stars Sienna Miller as Tippi Hedren and Toby Jones as Hitchcock. Jones, of course, previously lost a competing biopic battle to Philip Seymour Hoffman with their dueling takes on Truman Capote, and—if the collective star power of your film is a measure of its likely success—he seems poised to lose all over again to Anthony Hopkins in Alfred Hitchcock And The Making Of Psycho. As previously reported, Hopkins will be joined by Helen Mirren as his wife Alma, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, and now Deadline reports that Jessica Biel has been added to the cast as Vera Miles, whose appearance in Psycho came after a falling out with Hitchcock based on either (in Hitchcock’s version) her inconvenient pregnancy or (in Miles’ version) her not being the specific type of bombshell that Hitchcock preferred. So, lots of drama to explore there while ignoring that Jessica Biel is hardly matronly.
