Jim Carrey to try to kill Sonic The Hedgehog
Ensuring that his voice will likely be the screechiest, most “I hate that hedgehog!” it’s been in years, Jim Carrey has just been announced as negotiating to play the villain in Paramount’s upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie. Carrey will likely play Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming live-action/CGI hybrid, based on the long- (and fast-)running Sega character/internet pregnancy fetish target.
The role of Robotnik (or Eggman, as he’s also frequently known) has been played by a lot of people over the years, including Mike Pollock, voice acting veteran Jim Cummings, and Long John Baldry, who played the character in one of the franchise’s earliest animated adaptations. (Random weird fact: Baldry, also a noted blues singer, is the “Someone” Elton John is singing about in “Someone Saved My Life Tonight”.)
The Sonic film will also star James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, although it’s not clear yet who’ll be “gotta go fast”-ing as the blue hedgehog himself, or whether Carrey will be appearing in the film in person, or only as a voice.
