Warner Bros. loads Jim Carrey into flying car for live-action Jetsons movie

Back to The Jetsons for a minute: Why? There have been two Jetsons movies since the Hanna-Barbera cartoon debuted in 1963. The 1990 animated movie, Jetsons: The Movie, served as a series finale for the ’80s incarnation of the futuristic family. As hard as it is to believe, much of The Jetsons‘ run was in the mid-’80s, not the ’60s. But we digress. The Jetsons movie bombed, and the family stayed dormant for about 30 years before getting the call from Vince McMahon for 2017’s The Jetsons & WWE: Robo-WrestleMania!, a direct-to-DVD feature that exists for some reason. Between the two films, there were numerous attempts to get a Jetsons movie off the ground, with Adam Shankman, Robert Rodriguez, and, uh, Kanye West (sort of), briefly throwing their green antennae hat in the ring. Alas, we’ve had two live-action Flintstones movies before getting a single flying car in the air. 

As for Treverrow, who’s probably taking phone calls about the latest shakeup in the Jurassic World universe, it’s unclear if he’ll be directing. Currently, Treverrow has something called Trash Mountain premiering at Venice this year, but the filmmaker hasn’t made a movie since 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion. The letter only mentions Carrey, who remains firmly in his cartoon-adaptation era. His current upcoming projects include another Sonic The Hedgehog movie and a possible sequel to his 2000 torture-training, How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
