Jimmy Fallon opens the Golden Globes by attempting to one-up La La Land

If Jimmy Kimmel were thinking of riffing on La La Lands various numbers for during the Oscars, he better start making new plans. Jimmy Fallon—never one to pass up an opportunity to sing and dance—did just that to kick off the Golden Globes. The bit began by riffing on the movie’s opening, “Another Day Of Sun,” then segued into the Golden Globe-nominated “City Of Stars.” According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Scott Feinberg on Twitter, La La Land’s choreographer and dancers helped put together the opener.

Along the way there were, naturally, celebrity cameos. Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, and Evan Rachel Wood reminded everyone that they have been in musicals too, while the the cast of The People V. O.J. Simpson tried to prove that Ryan Murphy maybe should have cast them on Glee. Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown rapped, while Shannon Purser appeared in character as Barb, coming back from the dead, Esther Williams-style. Later, Tina Fey got snubbed by the host in favor of his famous friend Justin Timberlake.
