Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the Oscars next year

ABC’s not just rolling out TV news today—as part of its upfronts presentation, the network has also confirmed Jimmy Kimmel’s imminent return as the host of the Academy Awards. Deadline reports that although the late-night talk show host wasn’t on hand for the announcement, ABC did share the news that Kimmel would handle the emceeing for the 90th anniversary of the awards ceremony. Apparently, the network was “moving aggressively” to bring Kimmel back, which presumably means no one there thinks there was anything he could have done under his watch to prevent the great Best Picture fiasco of 2017. But Kimmel showed some self-deprecating humor in a joint statement, promising that “If you think we screwed up the ending this year, wait until you see what we have planned for the 90th anniversary show!”
