Joe Mande goes for stand-up gold in Award-Winning Comedy Special
Here’s what’s up in the world of television for Tuesday, July 25. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
Joe Mande’s Award-Winning Comedy Special (Netflix): Joe Mande has written for Parks And Recreation, Kroll Show, and The Good Place; played Gil Faizon’s “beeeeeeautiful” stepson; and received a cease-and-desist letter from a prominent manufacturer of sparkling water. But those achievements will all pale in comparison to Joe Mande’s Award-Winning Comedy Special, in which Mande uses the fictional pursuit of a made-up award as the framing device for an actual hour of original stand-up. Whatever accolades it receives in real life, it’ll all turn out happier than the comedian’s relationship with LaCroix.
Regular coverage
WWE SmackDown (USA, 8 p.m.)
Wild card
Sharks And The City (Discovery, 9 p.m.): It’s the third night of Shark Week, and we couldn’t help but wonder: Why are great whites increasingly gathering along the Los Angeles coastline? And if more seals are coming to New York Harbor, will they bring more sharks with them? And was handsome furniture designer Aidan Shark right that we weren’t really over Mr. Great White? And why aren’t the names of the four Sex And The City leads easier to turn into shark puns? The best we could do was either “Carrie Bradjaws” or “Miranjaws Hobbes,” but that’s just forcing it—which makes us such a Samaneater, if “Samaneater” wasn’t almost certainly something that Samantha gets called at some point during Sex And The City.
