Joel McHale will host the White House Correspondents' Dinner

Under the auspice that American politics is the nation’s trashiest reality show, Joel McHale has been asked to host this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, it was announced today. McHale will take over emceeing duties from past comics like Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Kimmel, and Stephen Colbert on May 3, for a night devoted to gently skewering Democrats, Republicans, the D.C. press corps, and the cast of Modern Family who’s there for some reason. Given that the recent visit from French President Francois Hollande briefly turned the White House into an episode of Real Housewives, and the fact that there are probably a few Bruce Jenner jokes to be squeezed out of Obamacare, McHale should do just fine. It also goes without saying that Congress could use a Winger speech or three.
