Johansson Fails To Reach Federline Numbers

Despite the imprimatur of producer Dave Sitek (of TV On The Radio) and David Bowie (who contributed to two tracks), and despite a smattering of kind reviews—and a lot of middling ones, like our own—Scarlett Johansson's high-profile collection of Tom Waits covers, Anywhere I Lay My Head, sold a modest 5,100 copies in its first week, according to Soundscan. To put that figure in perspective, Kevin Federline's far less reputable rap album Playing With Fire was considered a catastrophe and it sold a little over 6,000 in its debut. To put it in further perspective, that's about one third the number of copies that John Williams' music for Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull moved, and we don't remember a note of that score that wasn't recycled.

But c'mon now, is it really that bad? Here's a video for the single, "Falling Down." Judge for yourselves.
