John Boyega gets interrogated in the new trailer for Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit

Kathryn Bigelow has said that her new film Detroit will tell both big and small stories revolving around the eponymous city’s massive riots in 1967, and while the first trailer teased how John Boyega’s character will get involved, this new trailer delves into his story a bit more. Boyega plays a security guard who inadvertently gets tied to a possible shooting that some trigger-happy cops also inadvertently got tied to, and even though the audience can safely assume that Boyega’s character did nothing wrong—because he’s John Boyega and everyone loves him—the Detroit cops aren’t quite so eager to let him go. That stuff is intercut with shots of people with megaphones and rioters hassling people in cars, so even this trailer seems to be telling both big and small stories.

Detroit also stars Will Poulter, Jacob Latimore, John Krasinski, Anthony Mackie, and Algee Smith, and it will be in theaters on August 4.
