As Star Wars fans approach next week’s Force Friday (when all of the new Star Wars toys officially hit shelves), Disney and the notoriously secretive J.J. Abrams have been very slowly doling out new information about The Force Awakens. This morning, a surprise teaser was released on the official Star Wars Instagram account that finally features one of our heroes wielding a lightsaber.
The new clip opens with the massive shot of the First Order rally that was first seen in the international teaser released a few weeks back. The voiceover from the original teaser trailer continues as a short shot of Rey and BB-8 looking upon someone or something in awe on the jungle planet assumed to be Yavin IV plays. The short clip ends with John Boyega’s Finn igniting a blue lightsaber on a snowy forest planet, apparently preparing to do battle with Kylo Ren of the Knights of Ren (not a Sith). Boyega had previously been featured on the Drew Struzan poster released at D23, implying that it is within Finn that the Force awakens (and possibly takes the gang back to Bespin).
Star Wars: Episode VII—The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18th, 2015.
