John Carpenter unleashes new track, announces new tour dates

Unfortunately, it’s looking less and less likely that John Carpenter will be returning to filmmaking any time soon, as the horror master seems content to tour and put out records while fans wait for news on the long-rumored Escape From Earth. 2015 saw the release of Lost Themes as well as the Lost Themes: Remixed album, and this year Carpenter is putting out his second full-length album of original material, Lost Themes II, in addition to making his way around the world. Now, he’s unleashed a new track from the forthcoming record, as well as adding tour dates in Denmark, Italy, and Seattle, WA.

“Angel’s Asylum”—a nod to Carpenter’s comic book series, Asylum, co-created with wife Sandy King—features the sustained, heavy guitar chords and synth flourishes that fans have come to expect from Carpenter’s music, and wouldn’t sound out of place in a video game cut scene. The tune drives along to a softer ending, with lilting acoustic guitar notes worthy of The Legend Of Zelda. Carpenter is an avid gamer himself, so it’s not surprising that the man who inspired the Solid Snake character would in turn be influenced by the keyboard-driven music of the 8-bit generation.

Lost Themes II will be hitting shelves April 15th on Sacred Bones Records.
