In yet another Community news alert that cruelly got your hopes up about an official return date, only to learn that it involves more plans for episodes airing at some vaguely determined time in the future, The Hollywood Reporter notes that John Hodgman has signed on for a guest role that you’ll be able to see someday—maybe not this week, but soon, and when it happens you will know. The specifics of Hodgman’s role are being kept secret by producers in order to maintain the surprise, leaving it (like so much of Community’s future) open to fan speculation, so let’s do that now. We’ll start: Hodgman will play “Tweedy Bird,” a former cellmate of Michael K. Williams’ ex-con biology professor who comes looking to settle an old score stemming from an unfinished game of Scrabble.
