The Jon Stewart era of The Daily Show wraps up August 6, so it’s time for the beloved late-night host to start his victory lap. The tributes have kicked up big time this past week, with Melissa McCarthy sporting a Stewart-themed dress and everyone from New York mayor Bill de Blasio to Steve Buscemi stopping by the show to chat with Stewart. Perhaps most heartwarming, though, was show regular John Hodgman’s surprise appearance last night, in which he paid tribute to Stewart’s “host-pitality.” The accompanying video tribute, “Jon Stewart: A Pericles For America,” is composed entirely of the host making funny sounds with his mouth, bursting forth with all manner of da-da-das, wee-oohs, and blergs. Truly, Stewart is one of the most eloquent political journalists—if not minds—working today.
