John Hodgman’s memoir will be out in the fall
John Hodgman became a bestselling author with three extensive collections of bullshit facts, but now he’s stepping into memoir territory with Vacationland. The Daily Show and Bored To Death alum will publish his first book of stories from his real life via Viking Press this fall. According to the press release, Vacationland is an extension of Hodgman’s eponymous one-man show, and will see the dubious expert drop the knowledgeable act to “[wander] in the metaphoric wilderness of his forties.” But even these more truthful tales should still prove to be plenty instructive to the reader—Hodgman will ruminate on “the horror of freshwater clams, the evolutionary purpose of the mustache, which animals to keep as pets and which to kill with traps and poison, and advice on how to react when the people of coastal Maine try to sacrifice you to their strange god.”
The actor-comedian has set aside the erudite pretense before, including in this 2015 interview with former CBC Q host Shad.
