Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi's already-odd career took one of its characteristic left turns back in January, when news broke that the mad genius cartoonist and Nickelodeon ex-pat would be collaborating with recalcitrant pop princess Miley Cyrus, serving as the "artistic director" on her upcoming tour. What exactly that meant was open to speculation, since large-scale collaborations between eccentric animators and Billboard mainstays are relatively rare. But now Kricfalusi himself has provided further clues by posting a veritable shit-ton of Miley-related artwork to his personal blog (which remains a terrific source of original drawings and cranky commentary). The post includes some caricatures he made of the tongue-wagging singer during an early meeting.
Perhaps even more intriguing are the storyboards and stills Kricfalusi has also posted, from an animated music video he directed for the project. The images show a cartoon Miley cavorting with the usual assortment of gleefully distorted John K. animals (cats, dogs, a lustful giraffe), as well as a "big robot guy" partially modeled after hulking silent film actor Louis Wolheim.
Kricfalusi describes the video as "wonderfully wacky," which is cause for optimism, and credits several collaborators, including animators Gabe Del Valles and Alex Salyer.
