Take a seat, Stephen A. Smith. There’s a new celebrity haunting the halls of America’s beloved soap operas. After conquering the perpetually embattled town of Port Charles on General Hospital, where he played “Z,” the head of a government spy network, the World Security Bureau (WSB), John Oliver has his sights set on Salem. Starting today, Oliver will play the character Devlin St. John, Salem’s Chief Water Inspector, for a three-episode arc on Days Of Our Lives. Proving that, yes, he will be wearing that wig, which comes from his private collection, on national television, Late Nighter published a clip on BlueSky from one of the upcoming episodes, in which Devlin St. John (yes, that Devlin St. John) comes toe-to-toe with a television titan: Jackée Harry, who plays Mayor Paulina Price, who appears to have no knowledge of the Devlin St. John Memorial Sewer Plant.
Earlier this year, Oliver challenged the soap world to cast him in a role with a ridiculous name (check), where he does something juicy, like murder, slapping, or being slapped (check), and a dramatic close-up of his face (awaiting confirmation). Days Of Our Lives is certainly coming through on most of his requirements. Last night’s Access Hollywood shared a behind-the-scenes look into his latest run, and Oliver is indeed getting the shit slapped out of him.
