John "Teflon Don" Gotti to be played by John "Perfectly Normal" Travolta

John Travolta has signed on to play the “Teflon Don,” John Gotti, late boss of New York’s Gambino crime family, in the upcoming Gotti: Three Generations—a casting announcement that’s been rumored ever since Travolta had a very Sopranos-esque dinner with John Gotti Jr. in January but which has now been made official. As reported earlier, the film is less your standard mob drama than a story about a son reconnecting with his father, complete with a redemption arc about Junior leaving the family business, and a dying-of-cancer subplot that should disappoint anyone hoping for a little late-’80s gangster action. Naturally, it’s being handled by Nick Cassavetes, who’s dealt with the considerable legacy of his own dad by similarly retreating to a less controversial life as the director of mostly sentimental sap like My Sister’s Keeper and The Notebook. But hey, at least Travolta’s role comes with a nice, luxurious wig.
