John Turturro resurrects the Jesus in first image from his Big Lebowski spin-off
Nobody fucks with the Jesus, and you definitely don’t want to fuck with the legacy of one of Joel and Ethan Coen’s most popular and quotable films. So, you know, no pressure for John Turturro, who’s starring in as well as directing the Coen-approved The Big Lebowski spin-off Going Places.
The film—which chronicles the solo adventures of the Dude, Donny, and Walter’s flamboyant bowling archnemesis Jesus Quintana—is in production now, and earlier today a press release went out with the first official image of the Jesus resurrected. Let’s check it out, shall we?:
Aside from trading in the jumpsuit for a slacks/button-up shirt combo, it doesn’t look like much has changed in the life of Sr. Quintana since last we saw him. But, according to the official synopsis that accompanies the image, that may be about to change:
John Turturro plays Jesus Quintana in GOING PLACES, a film about a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again, even as they inadvertently perform good deeds. When they make enemies with a gun-toting hairdresser, their journey becomes one of constant escape from the law, from society and from the hairdresser, all while the bonds of their outsider family strengthen.
Going Places doesn’t have a distributor or release date as of yet, but considering it boasts a built-in audience of dudes and dudettes who get together every year to drink White Russians in their bathrobes at LebowskiFest, it should find one soon. But that’s just, like, our opinion, man.
