John Wick is being turned into a VR game, hopefully sans puppy death

John Wick, a violent revenge actioner starring Keanu Reeves as a widower who goes on a rampage of payback after gangsters kill his dog, surprised just about everybody last year by being pretty great. Lionsgate was quick to pounce on the unexpected success story, setting up a sequel and generally treating the property like a shiny new franchise to play with. As such, like all film franchises, it must now get a video game adaptation, and Deadline reports the company is looking to go all fancy pants by making it a virtual reality game.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer made the announcement while telling analysts about the studio’s plans for its My Little Pony film series, randomly enough. He said John Wick is “evolving into one of our newest action franchises,” and that the new game will be a “first-person shooter game based on the world and characters of the John Wick films and centered around the infamous Continental Hotel.” So, presumably that means you’ll be fighting your way through a bunch of other assassins in the game, and with any luck, you won’t have to watch an adorable little puppy get executed in virtual reality, right in front of you. Some things don’t need to be seen again, thanks.
