Johnny Depp and Amber Heard settle domestic violence case
Back in May, things got especially ugly in the ongoing divorce between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard when Heard accused Depp of domestic violence and got a restraining order against him. Now, though, TMZ is reporting that the divorce case has been settled and the domestic violence charge has been dropped, putting the whole matter to rest. TMZ adds that the domestic violence charge was thrown out with prejudice, which means that Heard can never re-file it.
This settlement comes a few days after Heard was reportedly “grilled” during a deposition, with both sides at that time hesitant to actually take this thing to trial. TMZ’s sources claim that Depp offered Heard about $7 million to drop the case, and now both parties have released a joint statement explaining that their “relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love.” It also makes a point to note that “neither party has made false accusations for financial gains” and that “there was never an intent of physical or emotional harm,” the meaning of which seems fairly clear.
Heard says she’ll be donating the money from the settlement to charity and that “there will be no further public statements about this matter.”
