Johnny Depp and Marilyn Manson covered a Carly Simon song together, probably made it evil and stuff

Bound together by a mutual love of making gothic horror palatable to a suburban audience, remaking nostalgia properties in their own image, and playing dress-up, Marilyn Manson and Johnny Depp have long been celebrity pals and collaborators: attending the premiere of Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest together, soundtracking Depp’s From Hell with Manson’s “The Nobodies,” terrorizing the populace with unconventional sunglasses, etc. Now that relationship has reached a natural conclusion in a musical duet, with Depp joining Manson for a soon-to-be-released cover of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain.”

The song isn’t available yet, but you can probably already imagine just how creepy and shocking it will be, because Manson will probably sing it in a low croak, thereby conveying that beneath the familiar lurks unexpected evil. It is also possible that Johnny Depp will contribute a monotone spoken-word recitation of one of the verses in a hushed mumble, thus imbuing the soft-rock ballad with the off-kilter “edge” that is the hallmark of a Johnny Depp performance. You'll just have to find out for yourself when Manson’s new album, Born Villain, is released on May 1. Remain safely ensconced in your sheltered plastic world until then.
