Johnny Depp is sorry for his joke about assassinating Trump

Displaying a level of poor judgement that one might not expect from a person who’s been in the public eye for decades—but that one would absolutely expect from the star of Mortdecailast night Johnny Depp made a joke about how hilariously ironic it would be if he, an actor, assassinated Donald Trump, given that another actor assassinated another Republican president a century and a half or so back. And as we all knew it would, that statement prompted the White House to raise Depp’s personal threat level to “sad” earlier today. Now Depp has apologized in a statement to People magazine, where he says: “It did not come out as intended, and I intended no malice. I was only trying to amuse, not to harm anyone.” Depp has not yet apologized for helping to spread the notion that the contemporary Republican party has much of anything in common with the Republicans of Abraham Lincoln’s day.
