Johnny Depp will now play Dr. Seuss
Combining his loves of playing famous writers, childish whimsy, and stupid money, Johnny Depp has signed on to produce and most likely star in a biopic about Dr. Seuss (a.k.a. Theodor Geisel), the author/medical fraud who opened millions of kids’ hearts without a proper license. Depp’s Infinitum Nihil production company and Illumination Entertainment are in the early stages of developing the project through Universal, which will cover the life of the man who spent decades evading authorities as he conducted his experiments in stitching together madcap rhyming and political allegories, and generally tinkering with young brains. Keith Bunin—who’s had previous experience with delusion and manipulative wordplay on In Treatment—will handle the screenplay, which producers say may include various animated sequences as a way of distracting from the various malpractice horrors. Also, Geisel’s voice was an amalgam of Fred MacMurray and Snagglepuss and he always wore a three-foot top hat, because who’s to say he didn’t?
