Johnny's Cash's American Recordings VI gets release date, as does the new Joanna Newsom--both soon!
The final release in Johnny Cash's much heralded American Recordings series, American VI: Ain't No Grave, will be released on February 26—what would have been the icon's 78th birthday. The disc features Cash contributors both old (Heartbreakers Benmont Tench and Mike Campbell) and new (Matt Sweeney of Chavez, Jonny Polonsky). Scott and Seth Avett of the increasingly popular Avett Brothers will also make an appearance. Tracks include Cash-ified versions of songs by Sheryl Crow, Kris Krisofferson, Tom Paxton, and more.
In slightly more current record-release news, Pitchfork was all a-titter yesterday about what appeared to be Drag City trying to sneak out a new Joanna Newsom disc. By day's end, they confirmed that Newsom's new disc, Have One On Me, will be out February 23. Click the link to see a cute lil' cartoon. (Another release you might not have heard about for February 23—a brand new Clem Snide studio album, The Meat Of Life.)
