Join The A.V. Club and Riot Fest for a John Stamos art show
A few years ago, Riot Fest commissioned a butter sculpture of actor, heartthrob, and one-time gig musician John Stamos. Like so many other things of dairy beauty, the “Butter Stamos” was not long for this world, but its legacy lives on in a whole damn art show. This July, Riot Fest is hosting the first Have Mercy: The John Stamos Art Show in Chicago, where entrants will submit their best art inspired by the Grandfathered and Fuller House star. And since we at The A.V. Club are such discerning types, we’re partnering with Riot Fest for the contest, as well as evaluating the entries.
The esteemed celebrity judge panel features A.V. Club assistant editors Danette Chavez and Gwen Ihnat, Nihilist Arby’s, Riot Fest Twitter, Anna Cerniglia from Johalla Projects, and a very special surprise guest. There will be an opening night gala at Cobra Lounge in Chicago on July 14, where the show will run until July 16th. All that (presumably) gorgeous Stamos art will have a second showing at this year’s Riot Fest & Carnival from September 15-17. The “Grand Prize First Place Best In Show” winner will receive two (2) VIP passes to Riot Fest and the DVD box set of Full House. The second place winner will receive two (2) general admission tickets to Riot Fest, and third place will receive one (1) general admission ticket to Riot Fest.
Unlike the “Butter Stamos,” this artwork will have a life beyond the festival—it will be auctioned or sold, with all of the proceeds benefiting a charity of Stamos’ choosing. Go to the contest website for more details on submission deadline and guidelines.
