R.I.P. Gary Graham, Star Trek: Enterprise and Alien Nation actor

Gary Graham, best known for his roles in multiple Star Trek titles as well as a starring role in Fox’s Alien Nation, has died. According to his wife, Becky Graham, Graham died of cardiac arrest in a hospital in Spokane, Washington (via The Hollywood Reporter). Becky was by Graham’s side when he died, as confirmed in a Facebook message posted early Tuesday morning by his ex-wife Susan Lavelle. “Gary was funny, sarcastic sense of humor but kind, fought for what he believed in, a devout Christian and was so proud of his daughter, Haylee,” Lavella wrote. Graham was 73. Read More

Christopher Eccleston says an “A-list actress” falsely accused him of groping her on set

All of Daredevil’s old friends (and enemies) are apparently coming back for the rebooted Born Again

Disney and Marvel Studios’ decision to bring back Charlie Cox’s Daredevil for a new series called Daredevil: Born Again has been a real roller coaster for fans of Netflix’s Daredevil series. It was exciting to hear about the show and that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin would also be returning, plus the news that Jon Bernthal would come back as the big, bad Punisher, but then it was reported that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson would not be returning as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson—a truly baffling decision, since Daredevil has always been defined by his relationships to the people around him, especially Foggy. – Sam Barsanti Read More

Those A.I. posters in True Detective: Night Country were supposed to be a knock on A.I., apparently

Hollywood’s writer and actor guilds just went on a 4-month strike largely in response to the unwelcome use of A.I. on set, but the best defense is to… just use it anyway but badly, apparently. This at least seems to be the philosophy behind True Detective: Night Country creator Issa López’s decision to use an A.I. generated poster in the background of the show’s second episode last night, a choice which generated almost immediate discourse on Twitter/X this morning. – Emma Keates Read More

Benny Safdie confirms The Curse’s ending was “always the ending”

There has been and will be a lot to say about the ending of The Curse. Benny Safdie and Nathan Fielder’s 10-episode horror-comedy about the intersection of gentrification and reality TV seemingly tells you everything you need to know. Asher was cursed and, therefore, must be ejected from Earth. In a twist worthy of Shyamalan, his passive house sensed a new occupant (his baby) and did what it does best: Reduce unnecessary energy, e.g. Asher. It makes sense. Still, many remain flummoxed by the sudden and horrific burst of magical realism. “They just didn’t know how to end this thing,” says the strawman naysayer. Well, according to the show’s co-creator, co-writer, and co-star Benny Safdie, they started with the ending and worked backward. – Matt Schimkowitz Read More

Road House director Doug Liman to boycott premiere over streaming release

To quote the great, throat-ripping NYU-educated philosopher, Dalton, “Nobody ever wins a fight.” But maybe Doug Liman can get a few shots in.

Liman, the director of the upcoming remake of Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal, will be boycotting the film’s SXSW premiere over issues with Amazon MGM’s release strategy. In an op-ed for Deadline, the prolific filmmaker criticizes Amazon for pushing Road House to streaming and accuses the company of setting a dangerous precedent for theatrical releases and failing to live up to agreements. – Matt Schimkowitz Read More
