Jonah Hill continues War Dogs promo tour after being ridiculed on French TV
Jonah Hill’s promotion of War Dogs—which was just released in France—hit a hiccup this week, after he received some rough treatment on a Francophonic chat show. The Superbad star went on CanalPlus’ Le Grand Journal a few days ago to promote Todd Phillips’ arms-dealing dramedy alongside his co-star Miles Teller. While there, though, Hill was quickly met with some unexpected references to his cinematic sexual past by co-host Ornella Fleury.
“When I saw you get sodomized by a three-meter-tall demon in This Is the End, I told myself, ‘Now that’s the man of my dreams’!” Fleury opened by joking. Hill, still laughing at this point, responded with some sexual banter of his own, firing back (via translator) with “I hear you get sodomized pretty often.” He was significantly more stone-faced, though, as Fleury went on to describe a “sexual fantasy” she said she was harboring toward him. “We would meet up in a hotel room at night. We would chat, you’d make me laugh. Then all of a sudden, you’d bring your friends DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, and then you’d go away.” As the smiles of Fleury’s co-presenters grew visibly strained, Hill responded with a terse, “I’m glad I came on this show to get ridiculed by your local weather girl.”
Fleury—who currently appears on the long-running show as the weather-predicting “Miss Meteo”—later issued an apology to Hill, saying, ““I really had the impression that I knew you. I thought I was just messing around with a friend, but the reality is that we are not friends.” This isn’t Fleury’s first controversy, either, despite the fact that she’s only been in her job for two weeks: On her opening night, she addressed co-host Brigitte Boreale—who’s transgender—as “Lady-Gentleman,” and joked that she wanted to have a threesome with her.
Multiple outlets have reported that Hill was angry enough over the interview to cancel the rest of his promotional tour in France. However, The Hollywood Reporter has updated its story to reflect the fact that he’s still in the country, doing appearances in support of the film.
