While everyone else attempts to get classic Stephen King works like The Stand, The Dark Tower, and Carrie back into theaters, director Jonathan Demme has gone the maverick route by optioning a King novel that hasn’t even been published yet. Demme will write, direct, and produce an adaptation of the upcoming 11/22/63 (due this November), which concerns an English teacher who uses a just-discovered portal to go back in time and stop the Kennedy assassination, while also taking detours to meet famous people like Elvis and romance a high-school librarian. (It’s Back To The Future meets this episode of The Twilight Zone!) If it all sounds a bit fanciful and sweetly nostalgic even for Stephen King, take heart that the official synopsis also includes a brutal murder by hammer. Truly, it was the end of Camelot.
