Jordan Vogt-Roberts is resurrecting the Sega vs. Nintendo fight with Console Wars miniseries
Actual wars are pretty bad, but nothing compares to the so-called “console war” between Sega and Nintendo in the ‘90s. Everybody remembers where they were when the first heard the vicious cannon fire of “Sega does what Nintendon’t” or when Donkey Kong killed Vectorman, so it’s a blessing that modern generations have realized that it’s totally stupid to get into petty arguments over which game console is better (especially since the Nintendo Switch is godlike perfection while the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are bullshit trash). Soon, the story of that console war is going to be told on TV, with Variety reporting that Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are set to produce a miniseries adaptation of Blake J. Harris’ book Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, And The Battle That Defined A Generation.
Goldberg and Rogen have been trying to adapt this story since the book came out, and they initially planned to write and direct a movie version a few years ago. This new TV version will be directed by Kong: Skull Island’s Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who seems to know a thing or two about video games—at least if his fondness for talking about Metal Gear Solid on Twitter is anything to go by. As for the specific plot of the miniseries, you could just read the book, but Variety says that it’s the “behind-the-scenes story of how Sega took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video game industry.” That seems like an odd take, considering which side definitely won the console war and is also still making game consoles to this day, but we’ll wait until we can actually see this thing before calling out any sort of pro-Sega bias.
Besides, it would be ridiculous to have a pro-Sega bias when the Genesis clearly sucked and the Super Nintendo was clearly awesome. That would be like trying to argue that that Xbox One is better than the PlayStation 4 when—like we already established—they’re both bullshit trash in comparison to the Switch.
