Josh Boone reunites with The Fault In Our Stars writers for New Mutants

At some point before or after his reboot of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and any number of The Stand films, Josh Boone is going to bring Marvel’s New Mutants to the big screen. The timeline is a little hazy, as Fox did just release an X-Men movie (with mixed results), and the studio’s in the middle of wrapping up the Wolverine spin-off franchise. So, rather than sit and wait to grow further out of touch with today’s youth, Boone has recruited his The Fault In Our Stars writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber to work their YA-adaptation magic on the script.

The duo has also adapted The Spectacular Now and Paper Towns, which, while not featuring any superpowered teens, did deal in adolescence plenty, and isn’t that what all this New Mutants stuff is about? No? Well, don’t worry, because Simon Kinberg is producing, and he should be able to keep the reunited Fault team on task. (Neudstadter and Weber’s other credits include 500 Days Of Summer and Pink Panther 2, so maybe there will be an impromptu dance scene.) No real plot details are known at this time, but the film will reportedly follow New Mutants Danielle Moonstar, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, Cannonball, and Magik (a.k.a Colossus’ sister). There will also be an alien named Warlock thrown in for good measure. As far as the cast goes, Maisie Williams and The Witchs Anya Taylor-Joy are both rumored to be on board, though there’s been no official word.
