Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad has all but locked in the previously rumored Sean Penn as L.A. kingpin Mickey Cohen and Ryan Gosling as one of the cops tasked with bringing him down, and now it seems as though Josh Brolin may also come on board as Gosling’s partner, out to take down his Milk co-star Penn all over again. Brolin's casting makes this project, what, maybe a Jeff Bridges away from being one of the finest assemblages of dramatic actors in recent memory? Surely there's something in there for him. Or perhaps Colin Firth could rough it up a bit and play Johnny Stompanato. Whatever. Even without them, this is already looking pretty solid.
