Joss Whedon fan site shuts down after 15 years
Over the weekend, Joss Whedon’s ex-wife Kai Cole posted an essay detailing the Avengers director and Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator’s extensive history of infidelity and apparent habit of hiding behind his feminist beliefs as a way to justify lying to his wife and spending time with his female colleagues. Cole explained that one of the reasons for her essay was to let people who idolize Whedon and celebrate his work know that he’s not necessarily the man that they think he is. That message may have made a big impact on Joss Whedon fan site Whedonesque, because in a brief post this morning, the site’s administrators announced that they’re closing it down after 15 years.
The post and further comments from the people who ran the site don’t specifically say that the announcement is because of Cole’s essay or what she said about Whedon, but they do make a point to ask for users to mark the end of the site by finding and donating money to an organization or charity that helps people suffering from Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder—which Cole says she was treated for after her divorce.
