Judd Apatow unearths network notes on The Ben Stiller Show
Judging by his Twitter feed recently, Judd Apatow has been cleaning out some old boxes. Fortunately for comedy fans, this means the unearthing of some weird relics of shows long past. Yesterday’s highlight was a photo of a sheet of notes Apatow received from Fox when he produced The Ben Stiller Show in 1992. In it, the network raises several objections to the script for episode 111 as written, including a caution that the “leathery old man is not too scary,” concerns about “children portrayed with guns and being executed” and that something called “Casting Couch: Sandra Bernhard” is unacceptable based on “sexual and pedophiliac double entendres,” including but not limited to licking and suggestive dialog leveled at kids.
