As reported last year, The Simpsons picked up a rejected spec script written 22 years ago by a young Judd Apatow, after realizing that Judd Apatow is famous now. And since one can’t make an Apatow script without Apatow people, And now, Entertainment Weekly reports that Apatow will be appearing in another episode, one that will also feature the voice talents of Apatow’s on-and-off-screen collaborator Leslie Mann, plus Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen—all of whom appear in a plot that revolves around Homer screening illegally downloaded movies in his backyard, including a parody of This Is 40. In other words, there is next to no way this script actually bears much resemblance to the one Apatow wrote in 1993, when the concepts of illegally downloading movies and films in which Judd Apatow’s pals just sort of hang out were but a pipe dream.
Other guest voices include Will Arnett, as well as Judas Priest’s Rob Halford, Channing Tatum, and Apatow—all of those last three, like Rogen, playing themselves. Producer Matt Selman promises Channing Tatum’s appearance also has a “surprise twist,” which we can only assume means his chest bursts open and Jonah Hill, Martin Starr, James Franco, and Jason Segel clamber out, clown car-style.
