Jude Law goes from Young Pope to young Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts 2

It seems that Jude Law has acquired a taste for long, embroidered robes and mystical powers, because Variety reports that the Young Pope star has been cast as a young Dumbledore in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. He’ll be the third actor to take on the role, after the late Richard Harris and Michael Gambon in the Harry Potter movies.

According to Entertainment Weekly, “Law will portray Dumbledore long before the iconic wizard became the Headmaster at Hogwarts, as he has been known in the Harry Potter books and movies,” in the sequel. “We meet him decades earlier, when Dumbledore is still serving as the wizarding school’s Transfiguration professor. He is also a contemporary of Gellert Grindelwald, the charismatic dark wizard who believes wizards are superior to Muggles and No-Majs.”

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 2 also stars Johnny Depp as the aforementioned villainous Grindelwald, and is set to start shooting this summer.
