Julia Garner's fake teeth steal the spotlight in first look at Netflix's Sam Bankman-Fried series

Of course, Netflix is mining a TV show out of Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison—going so far as to dub them “Gen Z’s Bonnie and Clyde” in a press release. The couple is infamous for trying to remake the financial system with cryptocurrency. Bankman-Fried co-founded the now-bankrupt FTX Trading Ltd., and his ex-girlfriend, Ellison, was the CEO who became the cooperating star witness during Bankman-Fried’s trial in 2023. Their star-crossed romance, along with their multi-billion-dollar fraud scheme, is the basis for the eight-episode The Altruists.

Created by The Imitation Game‘s Graham Moore, the upcoming series is inspired by New York Magazine‘s reporting on the subject matter. It chronicles the meteoric rise and collapse of FTX Trading, and how then-28-year-olds Sam and Caroline’s high-stakes operation fell apart. Netflix released the first photos from The Altruists, led by Say Nothing‘s Anthony Boyle and Ozark‘s Julia Garner. Both actors certainly look the part, but damn if Garner’s fake teeth don’t already steal the show.

The cast includes Alex Lawther, Karan Soni, Matt Rife, Madison Hu, Paul Reiser, Robin Weigert, Hudson Williams, and Jennifer Grey. Season one will release on November 19. Check out more photos from The Altruists:
