Julie Andrews and The Jim Henson Company go way, way back—specifically to the 1970s variety show The Julie Andrews Hour, where she duetted with Rowlf The Dog and danced with the giant blue monster known as Thog. She’d later guest on The Muppet Show and star in the primetime special Julie On Sesame Street, programs whose characters are, sadly, no longer the intellectual property of the Henson organization. So while the upcoming Netflix series Julie’s Greenroom doesn’t reunite Andrews with Kermit, Big Bird, or any twinkle-toed grouches, it does surround her with friendly faces both felt and famous, in a streaming performing-arts-appreciation course that bears more than a passing resemblance to Sesame Street’s many celeb-infused interludes.
Joining Andrews in the series’ first trailer are Alec Baldwin, Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, and Carol Burnett, but the real star to keep your eye on is Hugo the duck. “Every theater ought to have a duck,” Andrews tells us, but only the theater from Julie’s Greenroom has a duck with such charisma, comic timing, and ability to look totally cool and nonchalant while brushing his feathers back. All episodes of Julie’s Green Room come to Netflix on March 17; The A.V. Club demands a Hugo-based spin-off by June 2017 at the latest.
