Julie Klausner is donating a dollar to Planned Parenthood for every troll that dirties up her mentions
Julie Klausner took to her podcast this week with the story of how John Kasich, the former Ohio governor and presidential candidate, stole her seat on a recent Alaskan Airlines flight. The story eventually picked up some steam in the media, specifically from the ghouls at Fox News, leading Klausner’s mentions to swell with, well, the kind of people who watch Fox News. As a fun experiment in how best to manage one’s trolls, Klausner decided to donate a dollar to Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio for every comment, good or bad, in her mentions. Her choice of donation serves as a direct dig at Kasich, who isn’t what anyone would call a champion for women’s reproductive rights.
One might think that such a move would deter the trolls, but the frothing, bug-eyed need to post seems to have overwhelmed the question of whether they should post. Klausner, however, welcomed the replies, thanking a number of her critics for their donation.
In the end, Klausner helped raise nearly $3,000 for Planned Parenthood Of Greater Ohio. She also raised an additional $1,500 for the organization via a GoFundMe she set up to accompany her Twitter campaign.
Klausner, well-aware that hate will always overwhelm logic on Twitter, will continue to donate a dollar for every hateful comment she receives. Beware, trolls, you may actually end up helping someone.
