Julien Baker signs to Matador, releases “Funeral Pyre” from her upcoming 7-inch
Back in 2015, Julien Baker wasn’t much of a known quantity. She released her debut album, Sprained Ankle, quietly on the internet before 6131 Records picked it up and pushed it to a wider audience. That record would be named one of our favorites of 2015, and buzz continued to grow with her stunning Undercover performance and the unveiling of a new song during her NPR Tiny Desk session. Today it’s been announced that Baker has signed to Matador Records and released “Funeral Pyre,” which will be released as a 7-inch on March 17. This will coincide with Matador’s re-release of Sprained Ankle (except in the U.S. and Australia), but “Funeral Pyre” can be heard now on the streaming service of your choice. The song was debuted via an NPR interview Bob Boilen, which can be found here.
