Jungle habits die hard in the Legend Of Tarzan trailer
While the first trailer for The Legend Of Tarzan coasted on action shots and jungle vistas, the new one adds a bit more story to mix. It’s unfortunate that the preview spends so much time on Tarzan’s familiar origin story, but it soon skips ahead to a time when gentrified Tarzan (Alexander Skarsgård) and his now-wife Jane (Margot Robbie) are living a proper period life that is interrupted when Tarzan must return to the Congo as a trade emissary of Parliament. This all seems to figure into some scheme enacted by Christoph Waltz’s nefarious villain, who later kidnaps Jane and (re)assigns her the classic damsel-in-distress role in order to goad Tarzan. And, as expected, Tarzan (re)embraces his former vine-swinging, animal-whispering ways. He apparently can summon a host of gorillas at will, or organize a massive buffalo attack to obliterate his enemies in short order, leaving plenty of time left over for crunches.
Directed by David Yates, who also helmed the last four Harry Potter films, The Legend of Tarzan swings recklessly into cinemas on July 1.
